Steve Dancy Files - Pickhandle Gulch
Pickhandle Gulch was also called Candelaria or Mineralville. Today, it is a ghost town well worth a visit. It sits at about five thousand feet altitude in barren foothills.
The route to Carson City is about one hundred and sixty miles. From Pickhandle Gulch, a narrow valley leads to Belleville, just under twenty miles. There are few trees along the route. Mason Valley is refreshingly green with lots of cottonwood trees. From Mason Valley, the Carson Trail follows the Carson River into Carson City with Fort Churchill situated alongside the famous trail.
